[TSUBOI SOUP]: A perfect cafe for you to relax and recharge your energy before starting a new day!
Are you tired from everyday struggles? Do you want to treat yourself?
If you feel like this, I highly recommend that you visit [A cafe of books and breakfasts TSUBOI SOUP].
You will instantly relax by being hit with clear skies and fresh air in Kumamoto and a babbling brook since the Tsuboi river flows nearby [TSUBOI SOUP].
You will also experience Japanese history and traditional culture from the cafe that was renovated from an old folk house, and the atmosphere of the town, because this cafe is located right behind the Natsume Soseki Former Residence.
[TSUBOI SOUP] is only open during the morning time, as they operate by renting space from a curry shop [Bond Curry], which opens from midday.
The interior creates a warm and soothing space, filled with the comforting warmth of wood and the gentle glow of the morning sun.
The kind thoughts of the owner are hidden within the [TSUBOI SOUP] Opening
[TSUBOI SOUP] reached its first anniversary on September 15th this year.
The owner of [TSUBOI SOUP] decided to open this cafe because she loves books and she realised there are few cafes and restaurants for breakfast in Kumamoto.
“I wanted to make a place where not only tourists but also local people could enjoy themselves casually. I strive daily to offer a space where you can relax and unwind because some people are busy in the morning.” (By Owner of TSUBOI SOUP)
A hearty breakfast brimming with happiness to start your day
“It’s good for both body and mind”
That’s the owner’s most cherished commitment and dedication to breakfast.
The breakfast menu at [TSUBOI SOUP] is the “10 Happiness Breakfast set” (1,800 yen).

From the moment I took a bite of breakfast at the [TSUBOI SOUP], a smile formed across my face, and my heart felt at peace.
I visited [TSUBOI SOUP] on a cold winter day, and the warm pork and vegetable miso soup with brown rice gently enveloped my body and soul from the core, warming me up gradually. It put me in a cozy mood right from the morning.
Every dish in the breakfast had an incredibly amazing taste, with a gentle, comforting flavour that made me feel truly happy.
I love every dish, but my most favourite dish was Daigaku Imo (Candied sweet potato). The outside was crunchy, and the inside was soft and creamy, it had a natural sweetness and I love to take daigaku imo with hot tea on a cold day.
The tea I had was Hojicha (roasted green tea). The kind of tea depends on the day, but the owner primarily uses tea leaves produced in the Kumamoto prefecture.
“I hope customers feel refreshed from the inside out and start their day feeling comfortable.” (By the owner of TSUBOI SOUP)
There are a lot of books inside the cafe. This is exactly a book lover’s paradise!
You can read these books for free anytime, such as while you wait for your breakfast to arrive or after you take a break after eating breakfast.

There are some books that I have read, that I wanted to read, and I discovered for the first time.
This cafe appeals to all book lovers.
I love reading books, so I thought “Awww I want to read this!! Ahhh I want to read this as well! There are a lot of books I want to read!!”
The calm and comfortable atmosphere inside the cafe allows you to fully immerse yourself in the world of books without distraction, while waiting for an amazing breakfast.
At the moment, the majority of books are in Japanese. However, there are some books that anyone can enjoy from around the world with colourful pictures and illustrations.
As a side note, the owner’s recommended book is
“Lost in Translation: An Illustrated Compendium of Untranslatable Words from Around the World” (By Ella Frances Sanders).
I have also read this book when I visited [TSUBOI SOUP] because the owner recommended it to me. The illustrations of the book were incredibly cute, and the book features a variety of languages that simply could not be translated into other languages. It was a truly wonderful book.
I also recommend that you read this book when you visit [TSUBOI SOUP].
